Previous Project

Band promotion - hey!robot!

This project was to create a brand identity for the band in which they can market themselves in the unsigned music industry. The brief entitled us to design and produce suitable graphics and packaging for the demo EP, flyers, posters, stickers, pin-badges and the re-design of their myspace profile. To date we have undergone two photo shoots as well as designed, produced and distributed over 100 of the promo packs. We have designed the full brand identity which is still in place today. www.myspace.com/heyrobot

FMP

My final major project is split into two, still working as a collaboration for all our unsigned band promotion and freelance work with jamie howell. The other half of my FMP is to allow me to push my creative photography. It is something i enjoy in my spare time and as well in my work. This project is an experimental challenge for me as it gives me the chance to take my hobby seriously and apply myself as a creative to different aspects of photography and image making. It gives me the opportunity to create compelling form within photography on a fine art aspect of image making. As my portfolio is mostly graphic design, this allows me to make my portfolio stronger for the future.

As for life after Viscom, I have already secured a job at advertising agency Ogilvy and Mather in Dubai, as a Junior Art Director.

Response from audience...

BBC Radio Sheffield - Raw talent.

"it was kinda' in a cardboard box but had all the details of the band and all the tracks on the outside of the packaging, which is pretty unique"

Rationale

Juxtaposition's will give me the chance to tackle and develop my skills as a visual artist. The 14 different juxtapositions give me a carriage in which i can create different images aimed at communicating two opposites within one image.
It could make me look at the way the consumer perceives my subjects and actually change the way a subject can be seen.

I have secured a job in an ad agency starting in september, and i want to be able to add depth and skills to my portfolio.

Juxtapositions are a wide subject, there are thousands of them, i have to select no more than 20 to allow me to do enough in depth research for my images to communicate a clear message. A good image can communicate the exact message effectively and efficiently to the consumer, this is my aim.

The role i will take on is photographer, designer, post-production and finishing/presenting. As a freelance photographer i have a large stock of my own images to start with, but as the project develops i know that i will have to go out and image what is needed for the different images.
I want to start by getting my hands dirty and starting by scratch with printed photos, cutting and sticking together to make larger images. Eventually doing all the post production on mac using illustrator techniques and post production methods.

The outcome i'm hoping will be 14 different images based on the Juxtaposition chosen. I have also given myself a 6 week deadline.

Juxtaposition

welcome...

this blog is aimed to give me more strength as a designer and visual artist for the future. I have already secured a job within an advertising agency straight out of 3rd year, but i still want my creative mind to keep ticking over until im thrown into the pit that is advertising.

I am currently half of sample design and jamie howell being the important other, this allows us to get our work out there and be seen by a wide audience. It is seen as our 'day job' as such but i want to look back to gettin my hands messy and exploring aspects of design that band promotion work does not.

So i have created this blog to go along side my ideas and to allow me to post my research and thoughts to other designers and bloggers.
